The Trace Fashion Blazer

07.31.19

Ever since I started learning more about ethical and sustainable fashion, I wished for a local company that shared my values. One random day as I traversed some Instagram rabbit hole, I came across Trace Fashion and when I clicked their profile and saw that they were based right here in Indianapolis, I may have actually jumped for joy. When I saw that their product was a blazer that was actually comfortable and practical for everyday life, I was even more excited and intrigued.

I reached out to Kristin, the founder of Trace, and we had a really enjoyable and informative conversation (thanks for your patience with my barrage of questions!) When researching companies to purchase clothing from, I consider both environmental impact and labor practices, and I believe companies need to focus on both as priorities.

I was so glad to learn that Trace blazers are made with organic cotton, and they are ethically made here in the USA which also helps to reduce environmental impact. While they do contain a small percentage of synthetic fiber, that is what makes them comfy and actually wearable, and in turn, an investment wardrobe staple that is sure to last a long time when cared for well. They are also machine washable and dryable (an absolute must for me), have pockets that fit a smartphone, and even an inner pocket with a motivating message. Another crucial component of ethical clothing is inclusive sizing. While many companies fail mightily here, Trace offers from XXS to 4X.

The thing I love most about Trace is that they are partnered with a local nonprofit organization Unconditional that helps provide transitional employment to women looking to leave the sex and adult entertainment industry. This is so encouraging, and I would LOVE to see so many more companies following in Trace’s path. There is such a negative stigma in our society related to sex work (another topic entirely, beyond the scope of this post) and helping women who want to make a career change build their resume and network connections is a wonderful thing.

If an ultra comfy, well made Trace blazer sounds like a staple piece you need in your wardrobe, you’re in luck! You can purchase yours for $15 off with the code ANNIE15. This code is valid until August 31 at 11:59 pm EST.

Notes

1. In the interest of sustainability and focusing on investment garments you can wear again and again in multiple ways, I’m hoping to do a follow up post in the coming months with multiple ways to style the blazer.

2. To maintain integrity when reviewing items, I purchase them as anyone would. I did receive the $15 off that Kristin has generously offered to all of you, but I believe in financially supporting businesses doing great things and in spending my own money to achieve a truly authentic review.
