We were excited to discover that our Air BnB was quite close to Odd Duck, since I had made reservations weeks in advance of our trip. This restaurant concept actually started as a food truck aimed at preparing innovative locally sourced foods from the Austin area. Even after morphing into the brick and mortar iteration, this aim still holds true. Odd Duck is a fun spot with excellent small plates, refreshing cocktails, and true hospitality.

I love a good bar in a restaurant! Not only is it a great place to enjoy your meal sans kids, it also adds to the convivial atmosphere of the space.

Odd Duck

I really enjoyed the rustic touches in the decor that added a homey feel without being like OMG we are sooo rustic here.

There are even more dishes we tried than those pictured in the coming slides, but I’m sharing a selection. I was grateful for the very communicative server who helped make sure we ordered the right amount of food for our family. It can always be a little bit tricky with a mix of small plates and hungry kids to know what to try, but he gave us excellent advice! Pictured here are the grilled carrots, with lemon curd, dill gremolata, curry peanuts, and radish.

We tried a LOT of different plates and I liked all of them, but this is the one I find myself still dreaming about months later. Soft pretzel with chorizo spiced mushroom, cheese, and pepperoni spiced mayo. WHAT?! Guys, please send me the recipe.

Odd Duck

Some extremely fancy nachos. I can’t recall now exactly what was on them but I do know I had to fight my kids to even get any. Little nacho stealers.

Odd Duck

Oven roasted quail. Lovely, simple, delicious.

Odd Duck

Normally we split a single dessert but there were too many good choices so we had to try all the things we wanted!

Odd Duck

It’s hard to go wrong with a good popsicle, especially one as fancy pants as this!

Odd Duck

I love this moment of my boy engrossed in his dessert.
