Fareground – Austin, TX

Trips

Fareground is sort of an urban modern spin on the tired concept of a food court. Several Austin staple restaurants have space there, offering a nicely balanced variety of different cuisines and casual fare situated around an expansive central bar. With a cheese and meat shop, taco spot, burger joint, bakery, and more, there is definitely something for everyone.

For our first evening in Austin, this was an ideal dinner option. I didn’t want to commit to a reservation and particularly didn’t want anything fancy in case we were too tired from a day of travel to fully enjoy it. There was plenty of delicious food to choose from (choosing was the hardest part!) and it was a beautiful space inside and out. Scroll down for the full gallery and more details. I loved Fareground and will definitely visit again next time I’m in Austin!

Gorgeous green space for eating, lounging, or playing

This is the sort of spot I can envision myself visiting on a near daily basis if I lived close enough. Such a lovely place to pass the time.

Light and airy architectural vibes

The indoor seating is nearly as beautiful as the green space outside with its light and airy feel.

Communal bar at the center of it all

The bar at the center of Fareground has plenty of offerings including beer, wine, and cocktails.

Cheers, my dears!

I highly recommend grabbing a drink from the bar first and then wandering around while you decide what you want to eat. I decided to try the pineapple mezcal punch and loved it!

Balanced variety of food selections

It was so difficult narrowing down my food choice for dinner. Before I could even order, I had to at least figure out a category and that was hard enough.

Of course I chose tacos

In the end, I surprised absolutely no one by ordering tacos from Dai Due. Their commitment to hyperlocal fare is impressive and the result was extremely delicious.

Mesmerizing lines are a feast for the eyes

I could not get enough of the interior design.

He was a fan

Both kids loved Fareground, and I especially loved having a place for them to run around and play after we had finished eating.

Fanciful outdoor seating

There are lovely design elements to enjoy whether you opt to dine inside or out.

Don't miss the soft serve

It was already melting in the near 100 degree heat by the time I took this photo, but the soft serve from Contigo is not to be missed. It is a chocolate-honey hybrid and it was incredible. I could really go for some right about now.

Simply a gem

Looking at these photos right now makes me eager to visit again. Austin, you’re lucky to be home to this fabulous spot!
