Épicerie is a café and grocery in the Rosedale neighborhood of Austin, and I was really excited to try it out. In the end, I have such mixed feelings about this place. The adorable exterior and minimalist interior aesthetic were lovely. The vibe of the clientele is well-moneyed white people wearing athleisure. The menu is tempting with a solid variety of options to choose from, and the food we had was pretty good. The service was quite underwhelming and kind of blew it for me, and the wine pours are such a joke I actually laughed (it looked like a cup for a toddler).

I think my best assessment is that this cute spot is ultimately not worth going out of your way for, but if I were already in the area and hungry, it would be a decent place to grab a bite. I also loved the look of the cheese and prepared foods counters but didn’t have the opportunity to partake of these. I would like to try this again sometime and see if it could live up to its overflowing potential.

The exterior of the shop is quite charming and adorable.

Épicerie

The interior is lovely as well, with a light airy feel and minimalist design.

I love this lovely view…and I probably should have tried the beignets.

The fried green tomatoes were surprisingly good, probably some of the best I’ve ever had. I loved that they were so thinly sliced and the pickled veggies and smoked shrimp on top were a perfect addition.

Some people like to tease me about my obsession with salmon and kale salads, but I like what I like! I make one nearly every week and crave it even more often. I had to get my fix while I was traveling of course, and this was surprisingly good. I was skeptical because I don’t generally love lentils, but this was a nice combination.

The case of prepared foods was lovely and seemed like it would be a great resource if you lived in the area.

Épicerie

I really can’t resist the pull of a good cheese case. It was very inviting.
