October and November Sewing Plans

Yes, October is nearly over, but hey, better late than never…right?! I’ve been a bit quiet since I’m trying to focus on maintaining mental and emotional wellbeing during this crazy time we are living in, but of course I’ve been creating plenty since it is one of my best self care activities. I said it last month but I’ll say it again – this method of planning projects is working extremely well for me and I am so happy about it!

I’ve been so excited to share my wardrobe plans for October and November. My fabrics aren’t intentionally coordinated but they sure look lovely together, don’t they? This is a broad shot of my project mood board for these two months. At this point, some of these projects are actually complete, but I’ll share finished photos in my next sewing post.

Scroll down for project specifics, and scroll to the bottom to see my finished projects from last month (there are so many fabulous finished pieces). I also included photos of the Halloween PJs I made for the kids. I think it’s so cute that they still love this tradition even though they are getting older.

Matching Top + Skirt - Faux Dress or Separates

For a while I’ve wanted to try making a matching top and skirt that could be worn as a faux dress or as separates. I have had this fabric in my stash for several months and I knew I had to try it as a sagebrush top. After much deliberation on pattern pairing and whether I had enough fabric left over, I ended up deciding on the fiore skirt. The top is already finished and looks gorgeous, and I hope to finish the skirt this evening. So excited about this set!

Striped Jumpsuit

The moment I saw this fabric, I knew I had to make a jumpsuit out of it. I’ve spent over a year trying to decide which pattern I wanted to use, and finally decided on the Orchid x Parasol pattern mashup. I love the v-neck, wrap style, the slightly puffed shoulders, and long sleeves. I think this will be a perfect work wear option.

Sheer Tiered Dresses

When I first saw the pattern for the Wilder gown, I thought it was cute but probably not for me. However, since then I have seen about one billion insanely gorgeous versions and it fully won me over. I am planning two of these, both with sheer fabrics. I will also be sewing some slip dresses to go underneath (not listed in my sewing plans). Mine definitely won’t be full length and I’ll probably vary the number of tiers, but I am anxious to see the finished versions. They aren’t the most practical right now since the weather is only getting colder but I just don’t care.

Pair of Tie Dyed Sweatshirts

Is it weird to get wardrobe inspo from Peleton classes? Perhaps, but they have inspired me nonetheless. Some of the meditation instructors have these super cute tie dyed sweatshirts and I have been dying to create my own version of them. I am making a set of matching sweats for myself and Caroline for the winter. Her sweatshirt has a super cute little tie on the front. Mine is cropped raglan. These are already sewn and I will be dyeing them soon. I am really looking forwarding to cozying up with my baby in our sweats!

Pair of Matching Sweatpants

Caroline has been begging me to make another set of matching sweatpants for us for some time. I decided to make a pale pink set to go with my planned tie dyed sweatshirts which will be dyed shades of pink and orange. I can’t wait to wear these!

JEANS!

(Excuse the blurry photo, I have had little time and even less daylight to take pictures lately so this is all I’ve got for you.) After over a year of considering it, I finally feel ready to try making jeans. None of my older jeans fit anymore but I don’t want to buy any so I’m ready to tackle this challenge. I feel pretty good about it since I’ve made multiple pairs of shorts and pants this year. Here’s hoping it works well!

Project Info

I am excited to share a recap of the pieces I made in September. I truly love the way my handmade wardrobe is developing and evolving, and I am so proud of these creations. You may notice that the only plans that did not come to fruition are those for many pairs of pants. My legs will probably be complaining but I’m only human and just I can’t help making the projects that excite me most.

Hey Boo PJs

I couldn’t find coordinating fabric I loved for the kids’ Halloween PJs this year so I just let them pick whatever they wanted. Caroline chose this adorable Hey Boo print and I absolutely love it!

Pumpkin and Ghost PJs

Andrew really wanted classic pumpkins on his PJs, and I think he chose a perfect option. Such a cute set of pajamas on my cute guy!

Morning Glory Top in Double Gauze

This top is incredibly comfortable. I will definitely make more of this super simple pattern. I think it took me a little over an hour including cutting the fabric! I have already cut out a set of matching shorts so I’ll have a cute loungewear set.

Alba Skirt + Puff Tee

This is a fully handmade outfit. I really love the way this skirt turned out. It is so much fun to make and to wear, and I’ll definitely be using this pattern often. I also knit the top, which I like overall, though it is suuuuper baggy and I will go down a couple of sizes when I make my next one. Kind of a bummer but I still like it okay.

Saraste Top in Liberty Fabric

I.FREAKING.LOVE.THIS.TOP. I was nervous for so long to make this project because I somehow thought it would be really difficult. I was shocked at how quick it was to sew up. I can’t wait to make more variations of this excellent pattern.

Lander Pants

I made Lander shorts in the summer but this is my first pair of the pants. I like them overall, though I’m considering adding a cuff at the bottom to add more length because as they are, they don’t look great with heels. But I love the cotton/wool blend fabric. It’s warm but lightweight and perfect for work.

Masks galore

I’ve made quite a few masks from my scrap fabric and I love them! They are super comfortable. I’ll be making some of these available to you all in December for a fundraiser so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Cherry Bombshell Dress/Project Details

I am so proud of this dress. It’s exactly the beautiful statement piece I was hoping for and someday, in post-pandemic times, I’ll wear it to holiday parties.

Orchid Midi in Autumn Floral Silk

This is my third time making this particular pattern but I feel like I finally found the perfect fabric pairing for it. The drapey silk is so lovely. I made this primarily for work but I am sure I’ll wear it plenty more than that. A blog post on this is coming soon!
