Oven fries may seem like a simple side dish that just about anyone could whip up with no problem.  At least for me, this was not always true.  I have made baked oven fries many times in the past and they were always okay, but they weren’t “Oh my gosh, I love love love them” good.  A large part of this was due to the fact that they had a mushy texture.  If you’re aiming for a half decent substitute for real French fries, chances are you aren’t going for mushy.

I learned the trick of soaking your potato wedges in water before baking the fries and that definitely helped with the texture, but they still weren’t perfect.  Well, leave it to the brilliant people of Cook’s Illustrated to perfect the technique because now I have the kind of baked oven fries that I’ve been dying for.  These are so great that they have caused me to put burgers on the menu several weeks in a row, just so we could have them again.  Of course they can be eaten with more than just burgers though – and they should be!

If you’re interested in winning a free copy of this cookbook I’ve been spending so much quality time with, here’s your chance!   Leave a comment on this post with the answer to this question:  What dish or meal do you love enough to put it on your menu weekly?

The Rules: One entry per person, will ship to U.S. residents only.  Commenting will close on Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 pm, EST.  One winner will be chosen at random and announced next week.  Good luck!

3 russet potatoes (about 24 oz. total), peeled and cut lengthwise into even sized wedges
5 tbsp. vegetable, canola or peanut oil, divided
¾ tsp. kosher salt, plus more to taste
¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste

  • 01

Preheat the oven to 475˚ F. Place the potato wedges in a large mixing bowl. Cover with hot water; soak for 10-30 minutes. Put 4 tablespoons of the oil onto a heavy, rimmed baking sheet. Tilt the sheet side to side to evenly coat the pan with oil (a pastry brush can also help with this). Sprinkle the pan evenly with the salt and pepper. Set aside.

  • 02

Drain the potatoes. Spread the wedges out on layers of paper towels or on clean kitchen towels. Pat dry with additional towels. Wipe out the now empty bowl so it is dry. Return the potatoes to the bowl and toss with the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Arrange the potato wedges on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 5 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake until the bottoms of the potatoes are spotty golden brown, 15-20 minutes, rotating the baking sheet after 10 minutes. Using a metal spatula and tongs, flip each potato wedge keeping them in a single layer. Continue baking until the fries are golden and crisp, 5 -15 minutes. Rotate the pan as needed to ensure even browning.

  • 03

When the fries are finished baking, transfer to a paper-towel lined plate to drain some of the grease. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

We have taco tuesdays every week! Sometimes taco tuesdays ends up being on Wednesdays-all depending on the after school activities. I’m excited to try these baked oven fries!

  • Katie

I go through phases … but lately its been roasted asparagus w/ mushrooms. So easy, so delicious!

  • Jayme Roos

Soup – various kinds but we have soup every single week of the year, even in the summer months! Do you want our favorite (Beef Barley Soup) recipe?

  • Cathy

Homemade pizza…I made a whole wheat dough that makes enough for two pizzas. It waits in the fridge and makes an easy and tasty dinner with some veggies thrown on top.

  • Christy

Every week we have a “veggie plate” which usually consists of some roasted potatoes (or sweet potatoes); salad, and some other green vegetable or squash. We love to eat a veggie plate full of variety. I’ll definitely try the oven fries on a veggie plate soon!

  • Aly

    pesto pizza!

  • Lesley

Chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes! My husband is sick of eating it so often. :)

  • Amy C

The one dish that is becoming a once a week staple on our menu are your Chicken Gyros, yum!

  • Kim

Sounds pretty strange to some, but we LOVE brussell sprouts. It’s a weekly must have vegetable. I roast them with olive oil, salt and pepper and then sprinkle a good aged balsamic vinegar over them after roasting.
By the way, the fries look great. I’m trying them tonight!

  • easy! my husband’s caesar salad. he makes the croutons from scratch (as in, even homemade bread), and he coddles the egg for the dressing, which he makes carefully from scratch. we’ve eaten in 3-4 times/week for the last 5 years, and i’m so spoiled i can never order caesar salad in a restaurant – it’s never as good.

  • Jean-Marie

I would have to say my pork chops (which are baked in a jalapeno, brown sugar and butter sauce which has lots of “warm” spices such as cinnamon). I learned the recipe from a local restaurant and we love it here – my husband makes it for the firehouse too and the guys go crazy. MMMMmmm – it goes amazing with sweet potatoes.

Just found your blog and have to say THANK YOU!!! I gave up blogging awhile ago but now I am back reading yours. Can’t wait for my son’s birthday – I will be baking some of your goodies for sure – great job!

  • Chicken Enchiladas

  • Oven fries are a favorite of ours, and I will definitely be trying this technique for achieving crispier fries!

  • Jen

weekly meals always include lucky charms:) As much as I cook and cook our daughter has to have them in her diet

  • Oh wow, these look so good! To be honest, I sort of like a softer French fry, weird, I know! lol But oven fries sound so good with salmon burgers. Time to revamp my menu. :)

  • Jenn S

    Anything pasta….. or tacos.

  • Carina

Turkish meatballs with bulgur. With all the special spices and yogurt sauce it is delicious.

  • downhomeeats

The fries look awesome; I just tried making oven baked fries last week and couldn’t seem to get them to crisp up. I’ll definitely be trying this method. The meal that seems to end up on my menu every week is enchiladas or tacos. One of those two are always on the weekly menu.

  • beef and baked beans w/onion Yum Yum!!!

  • Laura

Baked chicken with some sort of starch (maybe those potatoes!) and a veggie and if I’m feeling especially industrious, salad. Comfort food.

A close second is homemade taco salads. I use my own seasoning for either ground beef or ground poultry, but one could use grilled chicken, steak, etc. or soaked and cooked beans, pinto, pink, kidney are good, too. The key here is to use a variety of lettuces, plenty of thinly sliced red cabbage and grated carrots for crunch. I make a homemade dressing with plenty of lime juice, add olives, tomatoes, avocado and cheese, but the topper that makes the whole thing delightful is a hearty sprinkling of sunflower seeds. The flavor combos are delightful.

I really enjoy your website! When the intense class I am taking is over (Physiology), I am going to make the banana bread waffles.

  • Susan

  • Thank you! I’ve had the same problem with oven fries – they *seem* like they should be easy, but they always disappoint.

    My weekly dish is probably rice and beans – it is surprisingly delicious, but it is also economical, kid-friendly, very, very fast, and always leaves leftovers for quesaidillas, taco salads, etc;

  • Rachel

Pizza—in some form or fashion. Roll up, pizza bites, good ol’ pizza. Some form. We love! :)

  • Debbie

Annie, another recipe that looks great! Everything we have tried on your blog is amazing, most recently being the chicken enchiladas. Serious yum!

We love burritos! We could eat that week after week and never get sick of them :)

  • I LOVE marinating chicken in freshly squeezed orange juice, topping it with honey and chili pepper, and baking it. It never gets old. Ever! And it’s really difficult to screw up :)

  • Toni

The only thing I want to eat weekly is chocolate cake, but that obviously shouldn’t happen, so I will say roasted vegetables. Doesn’t really matter which ones, I have found that I love them all, especially cauliflower.

  • Lindsey Dean

We usually have Asian salmon and brown rice. Shockingly my 3 year old loves it so I’ll put it on the menu ALL she wants!!!!

  • Jackie

Bean tacos with pico de gallo and guacamole. :-)

  • cindy

It would be eggplant parmesan but my family would scream:-)

  • Susan

My husband’s response would be pizza with your perfect pizza crust, but he tends to wear out dishes pretty quickly. My response would probably be salad since that’s not as easy to wear out, in my opinion.

  • I love lemon pepper chicken! I probably have this at least once a week for supper and then some for lunch as well! These fries look amazing and super tasty!

  • Diane

Pizza. I just can’t seem to exlude it, no matter how hard I resist!

  • Lentil tacos :)

  • Shannon

These look wonderful! The dish my husband and I could eat every week is Chile-Crusted Tuna Tacos. The OJ/chipotle/vinegar sauce is so good and spicy:

  • Traci

    Any kind of pasta dish!

  • Kim

I have this recipe for slow roasted pork. It is a family favorite and I would make it every single week if it didn’t make so much food, so we settle for bi-weekly.

I just recently found your site and I LOVE IT!!!

  • We actually have baked oven fries on our menu about once a week. Admittedly, they are pretty mushy so this post will come in handy.

  • Tara

Salad. I actually love salads and eat them frequently (not frequently enough for my waistline though…).

  • Jennifer

It would have to be baked spaghetti.

  • I would say pasta is something that is on our menu at least oncee week. With 4 small boys it is easy and most will at it in some version. I can’t wait to try these fries out…they should be a big hit around here! Thank You!!

  • Ann

One food my family has at least once a week is pasta. We love any type: spaghetti, linguine, penne, or our home made raviolis or gnocchi. Any type of pasta is great as long as it’s smothered in our families recipe for pasta sauce!

  • Christie

I don’t have one specific recipe I make every week(too many great ones to try!), but I find myself making something Mexican/southwestern every single week. This week it was Shredded Beef Tacos–yum!

    A weekly meal: Tacos!!!

  • Denise

  • Brandi

Tacos. Very easy but better than tacos in restaurants. On a side note, I just made Benchiladas for my family and they were a huge hit. This could be on the weekly menu soon.

  • Laura Wilder

    Tacos for sure!

  • Camille

Pasta! any kind of pasta..i could eat it every day of the week if I could.

  • Kelly

The dish I could have on my weekly menu (or nightly) is macaroni and cheese. Great by itself or with any meal. Of course the kids would also agree.

  • I would eat tacos every week. In fact, they are on the list of what we eat every week. Just thinking about it makes me hungry!!!

  • I found a recipe for a homemade general tso’s chicken that we could definitely eat weekly. These fries look great! I love CI – I have More Best Recipes and it’s also a wonderful resource.

  • Erin

Enchiladas – red, white, chicken, beef, regular, casserole… you name it!

  • Kris

First, I love your blog. I have made a couple of the recipes and they are husband approved, which is no small feat. The only thing we have on our menu just about weekly is tacos. I can change it up and my 3 year old loves them.

  • Cheesy Chicken and Rice… so creamy and cheesy, oh my!

  • kate C.

We usually have pancakes or waffles one night a week for dinner. Not necessarily only because we love them so much, though I do love breakfast food. But also because they are quick (and cheap).

  • Jessica

    Chicken enchiladas

  • Tacos, or some variation thereof. I would actually eat Mexican food every other night, but the rest of the household is happy with once a week.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • KT Miller

Grilled chicken … you can pair it up with so many different things.

  • Kathy

Sweet and Sour Chicken…..even picky kids love it!

  • Stephanie Taylor

For us, I think we could eat some kind of pizza every week, stromboli, pita pizza, tortilla pizza. You name it, we will eat it!

  • Karen

We love making ginger flank steak. The marinade is so easy to make and then we just pop it on the grill. We usually serve it with some sushi rice and a veggie. I use the microplane to grate the ginger and garlic in the marinade, and I think that helps infuse those flavors throughout.

  • Fran

Soup – in the winter months, at least.

  • Tammy Sorrell

Currently it’s the shrimp and grits recipe in the Feb. 2010 issue of Southern Living — we’ve now had it three weeks in a row! Would love to win the cookbook — I’ve been giving it a serious eye for some time now, but just haven’t made the purchase. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • These fries look fantastic! I think I have this recipe saved from the CI website or at least something similar; glad to hear you liked it. Lately I’ve been making a skillet breakfast for dinner almost weekly – I just keep craving it!

  • Lisa

I usually have too many recipes I want to try to make anything every week, but we do eat spaghetti regualarly. Usually Tuesday or Thursday because I have a late class and always with my own homemade sauce (made from a family recipe!). It’s kind of a simple, cop-out meal, but I love it SO much.

  • Tara

Enchiladas! They’re delicious, cheap and so easy to make. Nine times out of ten my husband makes them! (And between you and me, that’s another reason I put them on the menu. Shhh……)

  • RLR

Right now, I’m really enjoying Marlboro Man’s Favorite Sandwich from The Pioneer Woman Cooks – so quick, easy, and tasty. For a girl who doesn’t really care for beef – especially cube steak – these are fantastic! But – lots of butter in the recipes, so I need to take up a sport if I keep these on the menu….

  • Cara

  • Sarah R

I usually change things up pretty frequently, but some sort of pizza is always on the menu.

  • Amanda Poninski

I would have to say my homemade Mostaciolli with meat sauce! So savory and cheesy,..it’s hard not to make it TOO much :)

  • I love tacos enough to eat every week. My husband eats the tacos with a tortilla and I make mine into a taco salad. We use ground turkey, so the salad is pretty low in calories since much of it is lettuce. Add some cheese, sour cream, salsa and I am in Heaven!

  • brenda davis

Chicken Caesar salad with either buffalo or grilled chicken…we have it every week, year round

  • 610photography

These look delish! We love shrimp scampi at our house. I don’t necessarily make it every week, but I could!

  • Kathryn

Pizza – I’d vary the toppings of course!

  • I like to roast any kind of vegetables.

  • Eliza

Hi Annie! I love your blog! I’ve been following it for a few months now and I’ve found your food such an inspiration to try new recipes. I love making indonesian-style tempeh — and I’m neither indonesian, nor a vegetarian! I just love the heartiness of the flavors — soy sauce, tempeh, diced sweet potato, some coconut milk, and whatever veggies you have on hand, tossed/saute’d together for a delicious, one-pan meal.

  • Amanda

Our favorite weekly meal is definitely pizza, especially homemade. And we love to mix it up every week by trying different pizza recipes (I really loved your deep dish style you posted awhile ago!).

On another note, these fries look so great! Definitely be trying these sometime this week!

  • Shannon

I could eat Mac & Cheese – my Mom’s recipe – every single week and never tire of it!

  • Stuffed peppers – I make a stuffing with ground trukey, brown rice, tomatoes, some other chopped veggies I have on hand, peas, cheese, and spices, and they are soo good!

I have to have me a good burger at least once a week :)

  • Shauna

I promise I am not just saying this because it is your blog but I could eat Benchiladas every week.

  • Summer7880

  • Elizabeth

I make an eggplant parmesan lasagne pretty much every week, as it’s easy to make ahead and can absorb any veggies that need to be used up, and is so good and cheesy and warm after a cold day!

  • Too funny, last night I was thinking about how my oven fries always turn out mushy! Inevitably there is almost ALWAYS pizza on our menu. If it’s not pizza then it’s grilled chicken sandwiches. The thing is though, I have a mile long list of new recipes to try but there’s just something about a go-to food that is always enjoyable!

  • Ravioli!!!! I Could eat ravioli EVERY day!!! I think I’d just fill them with something different each day and change up the sauces! YUM!

  • Becky

I am currently trying to lose weight so I try to cook as light as possible. I have a couple of Weight Watcher’s recipes that I absolutely love. The one that I would make room for every week would be Lemony Garlic Baked Shrimp. It is delicious! I pair it with whole wheat pasta…yum!

  • Betsy

My husband and I definitely go through phases with meals, but without fail we always have our favorite zucchini dish every week. It is a quick saute of sliced almonds and julienned zucchini tossed with asiago cheese. We discovered it at a restaurant on one of our first dates, and have been making it together ever since!

  • Pizza! I love making my own each week! It’s so much better than what we can order in and it’s a fun family tradition we have for Friday nights.

  • Homemade Pizza! Endless topping variations, and I choose from a few different crusts depending on my mood.

I don’t always do that every week for my family now, but another meal we really like and have often is Honey Lime Enchiladas. So flavorful and tasty. I love trying new enchiladas and this is definitely my favorite. Actually, I’m trying your Chicken Enchiladas tonight for dinner! Yum.

  • Ming Tsai’s Crazy Noodles! We are obsessed with it. It’s easy to whip up and has just the right amount of sweet, tang, salt and spice!

  • It’s a tie between tacos and breakfast. We eat breakfast for dinner WAY too much in this house.

  • Crystal

I COULD eat taco salad once a week, but I think my family would think I was getting lazy or losing creativity. I also would love potato soup (it has chunky vegetables and cheese…oooOOOOOOooooo!).

Thank you so much for your blog. It has been a delight to read and has prompted some wonderful creations in our kitchen. I’m just curious how you find time to do all of this AND care for a toddler. Keep up the great work!

  • Green Chili Chicken Burritos, or any Mexican dish really.

  • Amy S

Our favorite dinner that is on a weekly rotation is Easy cheesy chicken. (made in the crockpot) served with either mashed potatoes, rice or noodles and broccoli because the chicken makes a cheese sauce and it is great to dip the broccoli in. Yumm!

  • Yum! I always have mushy oven fries, can’t wait to try this technique.

As for a dish I love enough to be on my weekly menu, that’s easy – homemade pizza! Can’t beat that crust we love :)

I know it is boring, but Broccoli. I could eat it every day of the week and not get sick of it. Plus, since I don’t do well with dairy, it provides me with the calcium that I often miss out on.

  • I often sautee bell pepper, onions and garlic with hot Italian sausage. Served with whole wheat pasta, this is a staple in my home! In the Summer, we eat it every week, and in the Winter at least twice a month!

Thanks for the recipe for oven baked fries! With Lent, we will be enjoying fish and chips often, so this is perfect! I’ve tried to make them all different ways, but I’ve never soaked the potatoes!

  • It may not be a meal, but we definitely eat guacamole once a week. Whether its with taco salad, fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas or just a snack with chips, it’s a regular feature at our house. And ONLY homemade. The stuff they sell in stores is green but the similarity to actual guacamole ends there.

  • Jen

Sweet Potato Fries with garlic and lemon Aioli.. the sweetness of the sweet potato fries and the tangy garlicy dipping sauce is the most perfect side to ANY meal (in my humble opinion anyway…. )

  • Erin S.

I have this amazing recipe for a Pot Roast with Mushroom Gravy, which everyone in my family loves. If it wasn’t so expensive to make we would have it at least once a week.

  • Michele

  • Turkey Taco Tuesdays!!! :) We LOVE Mexican food and I usually whip up some homemade salsa and guacamole to go with it!

  • Meghan

I love making this smoked sausage soup that I found in a cooking light crockpot cookbook. It is sooo good and healthy, especially on a cold day.

  • I have my Italian grandmother to thank for this – I definitely could have homemade pasta and meatballs every week… maybe even twice! :)

  • Cindy

Those are the BEST fries! Tried them when the recipe first came out a few years ago.

I love to make pasta with shrimp, lemon, garlic and parsley. We have this pasta at least 3 times a month mostly because it is so quick but also because it tastes soooo good! I made it last night and when my husband came in the kitchen and saw the small piles of lemon zest and parsley he said, “I know what we’re having for dinner!”

  • I could definitely eat pizza once a week (maybe more!), but for the sake of my waistline, I try not to!

Thanks for the yummiest blog on earth!!

  • Trish

May be a weird one but I just love real steak sandwiches :) Not the cheap steak um type but real thin sliced steak with sauteed mushrooms, onions and melted cheese on top of the very best roll you can find.

    That with homemade onion rings.

I’d be in heaven if I could have that every week – but I’m afraid my waist wouldn’t agree!

  • Megan

    Taco Soup!

  • Jennie

I try to change things up fairly often, but we have a “greatest hits” night, which generally includes Cooking Light’s roasted tomatoes and stovetop mac-n-cheese, turkey cilantro burgers with a chipotle ketchup, veracruz-style red snapper (usually it’s tilapia), lemon peppercorn tilapia, or some kind of Asian stir fry.

  • Devon

Right now I’m obsessed with sweet potatoes. I could eat those weekly. Other than that it changes right now since I’m pregnant. Something sounds good one minute then gross the next lol.

  • Donna Bucher

I would have to say my “famous” (at least in my own family) pork roast. I created a recipe that includes rubbing the roast with fresh garlic & olive oil & seasoning with sage. Roasted in apple juice, which results in an awesome gravy! I usually serve with oven roasted potatoes & various veggies. Also homemade applesauce & homemade rolls which I throw in some garlic & sage in the dough!

  • Jessica

I could eat Cafeio salads every week! LOVE them

  • Stephanie

We love “roasted” chicken in the crockpot and served with roasted brussels sprouts. We have this pretty much weekly. It is such and easy and healthy dinner. It also allows for leftovers and I use the chicken for a different dish the next day and save the au jus for soups.

  • Hamburgers and fries. Definitely. haha In fact, I make oven fries exactly like this…well, almost exactly, I use Lawry’s seasoning salt (for a more intense flavor) and paprika (for color). Thanks for the giveaway, Annie!

  • Megan B.

Since I’m in dental school and don’t have a lot of time most days, chicken tacos in the crock pot are soo delicious and easy and make the house smell wonderful!

    chicken breasts
1 can of salsa (just regular salsa)
canned jalapeno juice and however many chopped jalapenos you desire
approx. half a packet of taco seasoning
water until all the chicken is covered and wet
    JUST SHRED! yum!

  • I make a sweet and spicy chicken that my hubby and I love. You combine olive oil, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, paprika, cayenne pepper, regular pepper, and thyme (I think that’s the whole list) in a baking dish then add four chicken breasts and bake it for 30 minutes. It’s tender and delicious and it smells fantastic! And I love that other than my measuring spoons, I only dirty one thing. Can’t beat that with a stick!

  • MaryBeth

We make some type of Mexican dish weekly. Whether it is fajitas, original mexican tacos, taco salad, or your black bean enchiladas (which are fabulous by the way! My husband thoughtit was ground beef!) With a side of homemade salsa and gucamole! YUM!

  • Darlene Nichols

Quesadillas are a favorite at my house. Easy and good!

  • Katherin

As much as I love cooking and baking all sorts of dishes, the meal I would choose would simply be 2 slices of bacon, an egg (over easy), 2 Belgium waffles with butter and syrup, a banana, and a cold glass of milk [I would include hash browns but I tend to botch it up :( ]. Nothing beats breakfast in my book and even had home cooked breakfast party for my birthday instead of eating out, saved money and it was still oh so delicious.

  • My husband insists on having pasta with stewed tomatoes at least once every week. The ingredients list is incredibly simple and is always accessible in our cupboards (http://bit.ly/8BCrqC). We use whatever pasta we have on hand. Sometimes we include garlic bread and/or salad. It’s our go to weeknight meal! (By the way, I just love your site! Thanks for sharing such great recipes.)

i just recently started following your blog, and enjoy it a lot! thank you.

  • Liz

The one item that is on our weekly menu are grilled cheese sandwiches. It sounds really basic, but I like to use premium cheeses (fontina or Gruyere) with sourdough bread or do a variation of a “melt” (patty or tuna). The cold Colorado winters make me crave comfort foods like grilled cheese and a nice bowl of soup. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Jennifer

Cajun Chicken Pasta or Basil Chicken Pasta….both are so yummy!!! :o)

  • I love the recipe for Curried Lentils from Martha Stewart’s website. When I make it (which is pretty often) I eat it every day…sometimes twice a day, till it’s gone.

  • mushroom soup!!! or ribs….one is obviously quicker to throw together than the other! But I love them both!!!

  • Nora

I always make a nice big pot of chili. It’s so easy and always tasty!!

  • Sarah

Tacos or any Mexican food. Yum!

I can’t wait to try these potatoes. I’ve been looking for a better way to bake fries w/o one dark and crispy side and this might be it!

  • Penny

My husband is not usually a pasta fan but after making your spagetti and meatballs, he has been changed. I used the same sauce for lasagna this week and it was awesome. So pasta is our new weekly menu option.

  • sarah

    chicken enchiladas. YUM!

  • Stacy

I guess I’m another for taco salad! My new favorite addition to it, black beans! How did I not know I would like it before! Mmmm!

  • Alison

I always do some Hotlink-pepper/onions-beans-rice variation. Quick & easy and easily broken down into individual items for my picky 4 year old.

  • aliza

Fried, breaded cutlets (schnitzel) in bread with Hummus!!!
My husbands absolute favorite supper. He would be happy with that EVERY DAY! I also happen to love it like that but sometimes I’ll chop it into a salad with the best chicken salad dressing e-v-e-r.

so many comments! so many readers! ur so popular!

  • Fajitas… I’ll make ‘real’ fajitas with the usual stuffing: chicken, peppers, onions, etc. The next day, I’ll serve it over rice… or make pasta and add the stuffing.

  • Maggi

Easy. Slow-roasted salmon. We have it twice a week, every week.

About the potatoes… It seems like an awful lot of oil for ‘baked’ fries. It seems like they are frying, just not deep-fat fried. I wonder how much oil french fries actually soak up when deep-fat fried. Would it be more, less or just about 1/4 Cup + a Tablespoon that this recipe is calling for? Especially over only three potatoes.

I can see why you like them so. :)

  • Lisa L.

Sauteed chicken breasts with a lemon, white wine, butter, cream sauce, all topped with roasted grape tomatoes!!

  • Laura

Potatoes – baked, mashed, fried – it doesn’t matter. I just have to get my potato fix.

  • John L

    Pan-fried steak and creamed spinach!

  • Tracie

Tacos have been a weekly dinner, but not because *I* love them so much, but because it’s sure-fire for my toddler.

  • I would have to say a fav right now is chicken and rice. It’s so easy to prepare, and most of the time the kids enjoy it. I would like some new recipes to throw in my stash, though.

  • Laura

Right now, it’s my grandma’s chicken and noodles! Such a delicious comfort meal, especially on a cold day!

  • Katie

These look great! I’d have to say that I always have pasta with a lemon butter sauce with snow peas in the mix at least once a week. Yummy!

  • Jillian

banana pancakes! they make me feel like a kid (and are a quick way to use that last banana before it goes totally brown). have been enjoying your blog. thanks for the chance to win!

  • Annie, thank you thank you THANK YOU! My husband is becoming more and more frustrated with the frozen variety of French fries, since they NEVER get crispy. I’ve always had the same problem when I make them homemade, too — mushy and not crispy enough. We’re having burgers next week and I am definitely trying these!

I try new recipes so frequently that there are very few that make it onto my menu week after week, but one thing I DO make all the time is Tuscan grilled chicken sandwiches. They’re topped with artichokes, sliced roma tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and pesto mayonnaise, and they are delicious! We love them.

    Thanks for the giveaway chance!

  • Molly

    Turkey sausage spaghetti!

  • Elizabeth KS

sunday nights are stuffed shell night in our casa! sometimes with sausage, sometimes spinach, but in general, a weekly stuffed shell/manicotti makes ours a very happy household! and maybe also chicken-in-a-clay-pot. thanks!

  • Katie

Turkey tacos and veggie burgers are both weekly meals in our house…both fast to make and pretty healthy

  • Jennie

Lately I’ve grown accustomed to a lot of variety in my menus, so it’s hard for me to think of something I’d want to eat every week. I really love enchiladas, though. :)

  • Annie

Not all of the oil is absorbed into these fries either. The majority of it stays on the pan and keeps them from sticking. Sure, I wouldn’t call them health food, but they are most definitely healthier than something fried in a pot of oil.

  • Well….I can’t say that I cook anything every week…I am always changing it up…but I would say that when in a rush….BBQ chicken Sammies…that I make in the Deep Covered Baker in the microwave in under 15 minutes…are a hit all the time!!!!

  • Kelly

    Tacos or enchiladas!

  • Amy

Homemade pizza, with different toppings most every week depending on what we have around.

  • Sharon

    Margherita pizza!

  • Natasha

Chicken Enchilladas. They are so easy and delicious!

  • Caroline

My husband and I love lemon chicken. It’s just a marinated chicken cooked on the stove-top, but it never fails to be delicious, and healthy. We love to have it with rice. It’s so tasty that I serve it in the pan so we can dip the chicken in the remaining juices. Scrumptious.

  • Laura

Tacos. Kids LOVE them and it gives me a good excuse to make guacamole!

  • Kristin

I love homemade pizza, so it makes an appearance at least once a week!

  • Holly

Sadly, to say, macaroni and cheese. :)

  • Rebecca Sell

So delicious – so satisfying…We have Steak Sandwich from Ina Garten every week. It might be for lunch on the weekend, or an open-faced version on a week night, but my family just LOVES it. It’s up to me to modify it to keep it from getting boring.

  • PIZZA! Every Friday!

  • We usually have pasta twice a month, I think that’s what I make most often :) We really have a lot of variety!

  • Elizabeth Alvarez

I must say I’m a big fan of soups. I only cook for one so I always have leftovers. My favorite soup right now is tomato bisque soup. So yummy!!! Its an easy meal when I come home late from work and don’t want to do anything fancy. I warm up some soup in the microwave and make myself some grill cheese ( I always have cheese in my house! Its a must!)

  • Kat

My kids request either your bacon-egg-toast cups or your chocolate chip pancakes every Saturday morning. You are well loved in our house :)

My secondary answer would have to be my mom’s chicken a la’ king recipe from the old Betty Crocker cookbook (probably about 30-40 years old). It was comfort food for me, so I was super excited to cook it for my kids, and they love it as much as I did! The smell of the butter and the mushrooms and the bell pepper starts it off and the whole house gets excited, knowing what’s for dinner!

  • Chili and some sort of stir fry usually make it onto our table once a week! =)

  • Maria

Tuna Fish Salad. I’ll explain. I’m in college and it’s not expensive to make, and relatively quick to put together. But the main reason- I love it! My mom used to make tuna fish salad every Friday (catholics), and I got used to eating it. I like to put olive oil, lemon, dijon mustard with oregano and that’s about it sometimes!

  • I make a mean salad, but I would have to say that Ellie Krieger’s Stuffed Turkey Burgers make our menu every week. They are healthier than the normal burger, super easy, and oh-so-tasty.

  • Nicole

Ratatouille – it’s great all year round. Served warm in the winter with parmensan cheese accompanied by warm, crusty bread or during warmer months at served at room temperature. It’s great because you can make it in the slow cooker and have an all veggie meal or serve as a side dish with grilled fish/chicken. Love your blog!!!

  • Kara

Well, it’s not exactly the same food every week – but currently, I’d have to go with soup – mostly variations on black bean soup, with bread on the side. Simple, but with a little kick!

  • ann

it’s a toss up between coq au vin or curry chicken with cauliflower! Yum!!!

  • Creamy polenta with a fried egg on top. My husband and I cannot get enough of this insanely simple and satisfying meal.

  • Lynsey

The other night I made Paual Deen’s pork chops with a chocolate rub, they were absolutely delicious! My husband has been requesting them since, so they will probably be making regular appearances in our weekly menu!

  • Libby

Omelets are the main course every weekend!

  • Mindy

mexican food!! :) between tacos, quesidillas, enchiladas (I still have to try you’re Benchiladas!!), we have mexican food at least once if not twice (or more, haha!!) a week in our house. :)

  • Hi Annie! This is also my favorite recipe for oven fries. I had been making oven fries for a long time and I received this recipe in a Cooks Illustrated magazine and was so impressed with the article that described all the experiments the woman did to come up with this recipe. I have been making them like this ever since. They are perfectly fluffy/airy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Yours look amazing!

  • Charissa

Barefoot Contessa’s Mexican Chicken Soup. Delish!!

  • Jaylene Mosley

Hamburgers….They are just to quick and easy and everyone will eat them. So I am very excited to try these french fries next time. Thanks

  • Stephanie

  • Lea

Tacos! But I think my husband is getting sick of them. He skipped them last night and took Raman noodles to work with him. He missed out on a good meal!

  • Amy

Smitten Kitchen’s chicken marsala or roasted eggplant and mushroom pizza.

  • Kelly

I could eat tacos almost every week! And since my husband and I are both picky…it helps that its one meal we ALWAYS agree on!

  • Jennifer

My go-to meal is spaghetti or tacos. Both are quick and easy, and we have them almost every week!

  • I have penne or rigatoni pasta in some variety or other (never red sauce) just about every week… and sometimes twice a week. There’s something about the size, shape, texture and ridged goodness that I can’t get enough of — with olive oil, parmesan, vegetables and Italian sausage… yum.

  • Ryan

  • Andrea

Usually mexican food, because I want the taste of homemade flour tortillas.

  • Sandra

love your blog Annie !! Every Thursday for us now is BLT’S and Fries I am going to try it this new way though, I always left my fries in cold water in fridge for 30 minutes covered with ice.. :)

  • At least one day a week I always make Chicken and homemade noodles. My husband is from PA and we are currently living in GA. He grew up eating that meal which his grandmother made and I have to say I ate her version and it is FANTASTIC! He gets very home sick, so I wanted to do something for him. So, I practiced cooking that for a year until I was able to get it done to his liking, which is just like his grandmothers and we absolutely LOVE IT. And I must say, I enjoy making homemade noodles, I’ll never go back to packaged egg noodles again.

  • Catherine

Our go-to weekly meal in the winter is grilled cheese and soup!

  • Jo

Kielbasa & Potatos (everything cut bite size). ALMOST weekly!

  • Rebecca

Taco salad is up there…although pasta is right by its side. :)

  • LisaGrace

Our favorite meal is one that my mom made up, and it’s my husband’s favorite, we call it Bacon, Pasta, Parmesan! http://thealsburys.blogspot.com/2009/09/bacon-pasta-parmesan.html

  • Hi there.!!I have recently found your site, and love it!!! You make some yummy stuff. I could eat our Chicken Rice Casserole every night. Well maybe not that often, but its super good.

  • Katie

  • Meat Jun!!!! Thanks for the awesome give away!

  • Nikki

Tacos or enchiladas with lots of guacamole & homemade salsa.

  • In the summer we live on grilled chicken salad with fresh veggies & herbs from our little container garden. Yum! I can’t wait for summer to roll around to eat that weekly again.

  • mareejeanne

tacos or pizza or burgers! And I love potato fries, but am always tinkering with the recipe/technique to get it just right. Maybe this will be the one!

  • I have to say my ‘infamous’ white girl tacos! :

  • Morgan

I find that I am always making cheese sauces! My friends and family love the sauce on vegetables, meats, pasta, and as a dip for bread! I love how easy they are to make, and since the base is so simple, you can really add any type of cheese/seasoning to change the taste so that it fits with whatever the main dish is.

  • when I say white girl ‘above’, I mean, I have yet to make them ‘authentic’ enough.. trying to perfect that :)

  • Oh my gosh, SO many comments! I would like to have a great recipe for tomato alfredo sauce. That ALWAYS sounds good to me with some whole wheat pasta and garlic bread!

  • Andrea

We make tilapia fish tacos in my house all the time! Yummy, healthy and oh-so-easy.

  • Amy B

Chicken Parm! I did make your herb chicken and creamy orzo last week and I am thinking that needs to be a weekly staple.

  • JenniferC

I could eat pizza every night of the week! This recipe looks great, thanks for posting it. Can’t wait to try it. My attempts in the past have resulted in the mushy potato fries you described, so I’m glad to hear this solves that problem.

  • Julia Child’s crepe recipe… it is the best one I have tried so far and I make them on a weekly basis… there is nothing more satisfying then a warm, sugary crepe.

My thing lately has been country fried steak, unfortuantly we have been running around for the last couple of months we never know what we are having for dinner.

  • Julie

Mmm fries! My pick would be sweet potato fries with basil salt and garlic mayonnaise for dipping!

    Julie @ Willow Bird Baking

  • Sally

I don’t have anything that I fix weekly as I wind up eating leftovers five days out of the week as is! But I do tend to fix some type of bean dish each week–navy beans and bacon soup, black bean with peach salsa soup, Tuscan style shrimp with white beans, chick pea salad, etc.

I love the American Test Kitchen cookbooks as much for their techniques as for their recipes. I’ve learned so much from the one I do have.

  • Lucy

It has to be roasted cornish hens and potatoes flavored w/garlic , oregano, thyme and lemon juice.

  • Jackie

We love homemade pizza at my house (with 3 children)

  • Doree

I LOVE french fries…and can only imagine how good these are. Maybe some parm cheese on top?! :-)

  • My husband makes these fantastic little Mexican pizzas — just ground turkey cooked with tomatoes and spices, then piled on top of flour tortillas, sprinkled with cheese, and baked until crispy. We love this meal — I get really excited when he says he’s going to make it!

  • Ashley

My daughters favorite dinner is english muffin pizzas and salad, so as long as she’ll willingly eat it, it’s on the menu!

  • Tacos, tacos and more tacos. I think my husband is starting to get tired of them though. Time to more foward.
Love your blog by the way. Everything I have tried has been just wonderful!

  • Mel

We have burritos at least once per week, because you can change up the ingredients based on the season! Plus they are easy to make and everyone can customize their burrito. My personal favorite is our breakfast burrito with a side of fruit. :)

  • we eat pizza at my house every week! often homemade, sometimes frozen (i must confess). great give away!

  • Leslie

oatmeal~~i eat it every single day for breakfast, and never get tired of it

  • Laura

We love broccoli chicken divan from the back of the Campbell’s cream of broccoli soup can. We serve it with white rice and salad on the side. It’s sooo good, and the leftovers are twice as nice the next day. Plus, it literally takes 5 minutes to throw together and then you just have to bake it.

  • Jenifer

a dish that is always on my weekly menu is an over easy egg on seasoned rice with steamed broccoli and occassionally a store bought eggroll. i know it sounds ridiculous, but it is sooo good! i find myself craving it if i go too long without it. the well seasoned rice is the key, i use lemon pepper, garlic powder and instead of water i use vegetable stock (chicken stock would probably be even better though!). it’s so good! when you break the yolk of the egg it makes a sauce for the broccoli and rice and it is to. die. for.

  • I think it would have to be spaghetti. We LOVE it along with some yummy garlic bread.

  • Kim

  • pasta!

  • Sarah

My mom gave me a recipe for Broccoli Bacon Pasta (with parmesan cheese and garlic!). YUM! I can always use a new cookbook!

  • Sarah

  • Debbie

My kiddos love PB & J so they get that once a week!

  • I love Chipotle Mexican restaurant, and I have figured out how to make my own “Chipotle Chicken Burrito” that sends me running to my kitchen instead of for a $6 burrito–love, love, love them! Cilantro-lime rice and cool guacamole! Yum! Fortunately, when I make this meal, I make enough for several meals because it is yummy even left over!

  • Sara

I don’t think I have one recipe I can make every week, especially for dinner. We do have some pasta dish once a week and I have few I shuffle between. For lunch I can eat a good turkey avocado sandwich every day!

  • I have a fabulous recipe of a meat ragu sauce (best i’ve tasted yet!) that we have on pasta atleast once a week. Its ground turkey and mushrooms and carrots… I could go on forever about it :) We do oven fries or crash potatoes atleast 2ice a week too.

  • ElaineN

In winter I’d say potato soup. My husband loves it and it’s so easy.

  • Tenay

Sausage Pasta. Very easy and fast and very tasty.

  • Tami

I love pho! The place I get it from is closer to work than to home, so I only get to eat it for lunch (unless I go a little out of my way & pick it up on the way home). But this means hot, yummy goodness for lunch for 2 lunches in a row since it’s too much for one sitting.

  • Mandy Davis

    Tacos or burritos! Most definitely!!!

  • Jenny Dryfhout

This stew makes it regularly into our home!

    Peanutty Sweet Potatoe Stew

    1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/3 cup smooth or crunchy peanut butter

    2) Add all powdered ingredients and stir for 30 seconds. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for about 30 minutes. Garnish with peanuts and cilantro, if desired. Enjoy!

  • Elaine

bacon wrapped chicken thighs with a brown sugar spice rub…

  • Lori

One thing on the menu every week is baked chicken with brocolli cheese rice with a vegetable. I think I will try these fries tonight mine always come out mushy.

  • Ashley

Soup!! My husband is so sick of it, but I live in UT, so you just need it in the winter.

  • Kim

In winter, it’s my husband’s shepherds’ pie – I’d never had it before meeting him. Now it’s one of my favorite comfort foods. In summer, it’s salads of any kind made with home-grown tomatoes

  • Pasta is always on our weekly menu. I am addicted. Pasta with cheese, pasta with meat sauce, pasta with roasted vegetables, baked pasta…

  • CJ

Garlic chicken with pasta and vegetables. My husband would eat it every night!

  • Amy

We make homemade pizza every Friday night and have a pizza party!

  • beth

Portabello mushroom sandwiches. I marinate them in balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper. Grill the mushrooms and when done top with a slice of swiss cheese. Serve on toasted bun with garlic mayo made from mayo, lemon juice, and garlic. Also put roasted red peppers on bun. Yum.

  • tequila fajitas if I start doing them weekly though I do leave out the tequila or it can get pretty expensive.

  • suzanne

pizza- we have to have it once a week.

  • Kassie

Pizza! We make pizza at my house every Friday night. The toppings change, but the menu doesn’t!

  • One meal… in all honesty, I love cooking. I love it I love it I love it! The kitchen is MY “man-room”… lol! But if I were to pick ONE meal to have every week, it would be homemade Vietnamese pho.

I finally perfected my broth and can’t get enough of it. The trials of perfecting the broth wasn’t even that bad. I’ll even take a bowl of pho from a restaurant… as long I have my weekly bowl.

I’ve recently turned pescatarian so I now have to perfect my SEAFOOD broth for pho. ;-) Think I can do it?

Oh and I’d LOVE to have this cookbook in my collection… ;-)

  • Emily

In our home, a deconstructed spicy tuna roll salad (say that five-times fast!) is on our menu each week. My husband and I are polar-opposites in the kitchen; I follow recipes exactly as they are written, and he’s far more loose and intuitive. We created this recipe together- it’s not only delicious, but fun to make and reflective of both our cooking personalities.

  • Jennifer

These look delicious, anything potatoes is my favorite. That’s probably why my favorite dish is gnocci – I could eat it every day!

  • Christine

Enchiladas. Anything leftover can go in enchiladas. Almost.

    I love Cooks Illustrated.

  • Quinoa and Black Beans – fast, healthy and delicious!

  • I love different recipes so much that it has to be GREAT or demanded by my children to make it on my meal plan once every two weeks…. let alone every week! My current favorite is Chicken Thighs all Puttenesca (recipe on my blog).

  • Ashley

Baked halibut with olive oil, salt and pepper. Yum!

  • Vreinhart

My mom’s goulash!! So easy to make and tastes even better as 2-3 day leftovers!

  • Ooh what a great giveaway! We recently discovered great recipes for lemon spaghetti and chicken dijonnaise – and they’re on our menu every week…love them!

  • Crystal

We love turkey tacos! My husband also makes the best guacamole ever, so we add that or pico and we’re set!

  • I LOVE homemade pizza–especially having people over and making several different kinds. Unfortunately med school (renal right now!) cuts into time for that…but I can dream!

Thanks for introducing us to the cookbook, looks like a great one!

  • Jill

    lasagna or pizza.

  • Athena

I love to make a veggie scramble for breakfast on Sat. morning for me and my boyfriend. We make it together by chopping up all sorts of veggies like mushrooms, tomatoes, green peppers, zucchini and add them to 4 or 5 eggs in a pan with monterey jack cheese, and some rosemary. Yum!

  • Sarah Kennedy

Oh my goodness… It’s not really a meal, but homemade bread. The time each weekend is totally worth it!

  • Neil

  • Nicole Vogt

    chicken burritos!!!

  • Christina

I do steak rollups. I put a dressing of mayo and horseradish spread lightly over the tortilla. The roll it up with thinly sliced steak, salad greens, tomatoes, feta cheese. Maybe a little vinegarette if you are into that. It’s easy, nothing incredibly creative but my husband loves it. Plus I love having tortillas in the house for quesadillas, homemade chips, tacos etc. I have two little boys (one of my boys is also named Andrew!) so I need easy, quick dishes! I love your blog!!

  • Juli Jones

I buy 1 pound of dried pinto beans and we soak them overnight and make AWESOME pinto beans (my personal recipe — which I would love to share)for burritos. And while I’m writing here, Annie, I must say you’ve inspired a lot of my fellow classmates and I to make some great food on the side of studying! Thanks!

  • Caroline

Taco salad with homemade salsa and crushed doritos. Yum!

  • M

I love oven baked fries and like you, hadn’t found just the right process. These sound and LOOK amazing! I can’t wait to try them. As for my faves in heavy rotation, I love a good green salad and serve it as our vegetable at least 3x week. Red/green leaf lettuce, thinly sliced sweet onion, a handful of craisins, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar. I also daydream (no, literally, daydream) about garlic-sauteed spinach. Either of those with a good steak and I can die happy.

  • Jayne

It depends on the season. Pork chops with maple-mustard sauce, roasted root vegetables, and isreali couscous make up a popular dinner in my kitchen this winter. Thanks for the offer.

My husband and I have been in LOVE with this cookbook ever since we’ve been married. We are well on our way to making almost all of their recipes. I’m an immunologist, so perfecting a recipe with controlled variables is right up my alley! I can’t wait to see what else you try! They’re coming out with a second Best Recipe cookbook, with more ethnic recipes (Asian, Indian, etc) that I’m keeping my eye on. Also, LOVE your blog, recipes, and photography!!

  • Diana Carolina

Enchiladas!! Sometimes cheese, sometimes filled with chicken…. I’m actually making some this weekend!!

  • Melissa

We eat tacos every Tuesday! I must confess I use the vegetarain Boca Meatless Crumbles instead of ground beef. My hubby and kids get so excited when it’s Taco Night! They know it’s a soy sub, but they love how the tacos taste! The boys eat soft tacos with cheese only. My hubby eats crunchy tacos with cheese, lettuce, and Taco Bell Sauce. I eat a taco salad — crumbled crunchy taco shells, tons of lettuce, spicy fresh salsa, a smackeral of cheese and Ortega Taco Sauce (all for about 5 Weight Watcher points!). We love us some tacos!

  • Heather

Shrimp rolls! I just love them. I could eat shrimp rolls and potato chips once a week for sure!

  • Jillian

Burritos! It’s been a recent favorite, I can’t seem to get enough :)

  • Lisa S

  • Gale

Any kind of pasta or homemade pizza.

  • Rice! I always make a big batch in the rice cooker to either have on the side with dinner or make up a quick fried rice for an easy meal.

  • For my family it would be, tacos, homemade spaghetti w/ meatball or homemade pizza w/homemade ice cream for dessert!

  • nicole

Broccoli! Don’t get me wrong, I love sweets (especially EVERYTHING I see on your site), but I always seem to want some fresh steamed broccoli. Add to the weirdo factor, I prefer the stem to the “bushy” part; and plain please =)

  • Analyn

    waffles :)

  • Lindsay

That’s easy- carnitas slow-cooked on the stove. So completely delicious and simple.

  • Karen

We used to always have “meatloaf Mondays” and “taco Tuesdays”– boring right? But it was great when I was just to busy to make a decision. We still have tacos once a week–now the days vary! :)

  • Pizza! Definitely Pizza!

  • Rachel

Hmm, I can always go for tacos or pizza. Tacos have to be homemade & pizza can be either homemade or bought. I do love experimenting with different toppings & sauces :)

  • Hummus, pita, and salad…we have that ALL the time!

  • sunnysmile

    Tacos! Always a kid pleaser.

  • My family loves tacos and we eat them weekly!

  • spaghetti…for my family
    fried noodles….for me

  • Katie D.

The one recipe that makes it on our menu weekly is arroz-con-pollo. I learned this recipe after spending wonderful quality time with my mother-in-law who learned how to make this authentic recipe while living in Ecuador. Its a great during-the-week recipe as most of the ingredients can be ready in advance (boil and cut the chicken, cook and refridge the rice, chop the veggies). Then when you are ready – stir fry! It makes our house more like home every time!

  • my husband and i love our chicken, artichoke + roasted red pepper pizza on a whole wheat flatcrust pizza shell – yum!
    this cookbook looks amazing!

  • Jana

Spaghetti for sure, I never get sick of it and it always turns out a little different each time.

  • Jenn E.

Homemade Pizza. Usually I buy the crusts, but sometimes I make them myself, too. I LOVE it and it’s better for you than takeout.

  • Either my Lemon Risotto or my Beet & Cheddar Risotto … lots of cheesy carby goodness! Yup, can have either one of those every single week.
As for these perfect looking oven baked fries, am bookmarking them immediately to make very very soon!

  • Shannon

    Garlic noodles!
PS, Thanks for providing “printer friendly version” !

  • I am always experimenting so I don’t know that there’s anything we really do over and over again with the exception of homemade salsa – which we love and eat on a lot of things – breakfast, lunch AND dinner…

  • I have a pasta night.
    a pizza night
    a Mexican night.
    a soup night.
    and a potato night.

Variations on each “genre” each week. :)

We have some kind of pasta every week, with my homemade spaghetti sauce, sometimes with sausage or meatballs, sometimes stuffed shells.

  • Laura

Pasta – sometimes with sauteed shrimp, sometimes with meatballs, often with some kind of chicken, or with salmon and homemade pesto (frozen in ice cube trays). Always part of a quick and easy dish!

  • Cheryl

    vegetable chicken & dumplings

  • Liz

Crock pot Turkey taco chili. I like to make batches of it and freeze as it’s a quick meal served with tortillas.

  • Sara

Our whole family really enjoys the baked garlic rice pilaf of yours and could eat it frequently!

  • Emily O.

We love parmesan-breaded pork chops. So easy but very tasty. I think it’s originally a Giada recipe.

  • I would have to say pizza!

  • AC

my kids love wedding soup, so we make that most often…

  • Kelli

    Cheese enchiladas!

  • summer

    TACOS for sure!

  • Sheryl

I use Greek seasoning from Penzeys daily- whether whisked with olive oil and red wine vinegar for a dressing, mixed with olive oil and parmesan cheese for dipping French bread, adding to grains and veggies, or sprinkling on chicken or fish! It’s amazing!

  • stacey

Kielbasa! With buttered noodles, with potatoes, with fries, with anything!

  • Jan

Home made garlic bread sticks. My 16 yr. old son had a friend over after skiing the other day. Just as they walked in the door the bread sticks came out of the oven. The kids ate the whole batch and my son’s friend asked me if he could have the recipe! It’s the most requested food item in this house.
Makes excellent pizza dough as well.

  • Tracey

    A shrimp stir-fry!

  • I would say, even though I have never posted about it, that some kind of Indian spicy Tofu stirfry is put on the table at least once a week, if not more. Pulse fresh corriander, garlic, shallot, chili peppers and simmer for about 10 min in a a couple tbls olive oil. Then add your tofu and veggies…wha-la..healthy yum!

  • Anything mexican! I LOVE mexican food….usually we have tacos about once a week…or burrito casserole…
I could definitely make mexican food almost daily :)

  • Cindy Karnitz

Vietnamese Carmel Prawns would be on the menu every week. My kids love, love, love prawns, and this is a sweet, spicy quick stir fry. These Oven Fries would be a great change from our usual jasmine rice- what kid doesn’t love fries? Thanks for the recipe!

  • deb

I make orzo with sauteed spinach, feta, sundried tomatoes and roasted shrimp all the time. It’s easy to whip up at a moment’s notice and I add whatever veggies I have on hand to beef up the health factor. So simple and delicious.

  • Roxanne Parker

I have to say, even though it takes a few hours, I make lasagna almost every Sunday. My recipe is so amazing, I just can’t pass it up! (It doesn’t help that I think my fiancee fell in love with my lasagna before he fell in love with me!)

  • Candace

Tex Mex Calzones. This is a recipe I saw in Cooking Light. It’s simple and delicious!

  • Oanh

The one dish I make frequently every week is homemade pizza. I love the fact that I can change the topping to create variety. I love oven fries and can sit and eat a whole batch by myself! Thanks for the recipe!!

  • Ashley

Pizza!! with Tacos being a very close second! I’m so glad you posted this recipe and technique for oven fries. I can’t wait to try them myself. That will be a must for this weekend.

  • Ann Mao

    Cheese omelette!!

  • ash

One recipe I love enough to put on the menu weekly… Creamy Chicken Enchiladas. Unfortunately, they rarely go on the menu cause they’re not exactly too healthy :-) SOOO good though!

p..s. – we love this recipe! i’ve been making them for months this way and they come out great!

  • Ginger Guilfoyle

Colcannon! I’m not Irish, but I love this traditional Irish dish. Born and raised in Idaho, this dish completely appeals to this potato-loving gal’s heart. Potatos, cabbage (or kale) and bits of salty ham or bacon, oh and don’t forget the butter! Heaven on a plate. If my hips and rear-end would let me, I have this meal two or three times a week!

  • Shawna

BBQ chicken pizza! It’s so good with smoked gouda, chicken and cilantro. Here’s the link:

  • Wendy

Skillet Tamale Pie, from America’s Test Kitchen. Man, I love that stuff! And it freezes and reheats very nicely for leftovers!

  • Gayle in GA

Pizza…almost every Friday night is pizza night. I make the pizza dough into small individual pizzas then everyone chooses their own toppings. My favorite is a white pizza with roasted veggies. So glad it’s Friday…pizza is in my future!!!

  • Island Chicken hands down. It is fast, easy and simple and even my pickest eaters devour it.

  • Christa Z

I love making your chicken enchiladas. I thought they would be too spicy w/ 2 jalapenos (yes I am a bit of a woose obviously) but they are just fantastic. Honestly though I would do those bi-weekly w/ the chicken parmesian, or the eggplant parmesian on the weekend, or even with the baked ziti. Do you see a pattern here? You should I love your recipes! Love what you do and must thank you for the envigorated evening meals!

  • Melissa

I have a “cheesy orzo” recipe that I make that my husband regularly requests. It is like a refined, mellow Mac & Cheese (made with parmesan, shallots, and fresh herbs). Neither of us would complain if we ate it weekly. :)

  • Alli

That is a toughy, but I would probably say chocolate chip cookies. I’m a sweet tooth kind of girl, what can I say?

  • well, i have to make chicken cordon bleu for my husband every week…i personally like to eat a quesidilla at least once a week…just love mexican food!

  • Billi

Chicken enchiladas! My version is quite similiar to your “Benchiladas” but with a few twists. Yum!

  • karen

Try the Garlic Oven Fries in from Cook’s Country (a branch of Cook’s Illustrated). Delish

  • Lisa Teague

I love chicken and rice. It’s baked chicken pulled off the bone. Combinbed with sauteed onions and garlic, with sour cream. So simple and served over rice. YUM!

  • Linda

Pizza. My husband discovered he could make his own and that was it. We now have it almost every week, but I don’t complain too much because it means one night I don’t have to worry about getting dinner on the table!

  • cindy

  • Therese

    Buttermilk Waffles on Sat mornings

I had been looking for a recipe that were like a Mother’s Day brunch we used to go to. I’ve tested different recipes until I ran across a Cook’s Illustrated version. Bingo! That was it. My favorite way would be with slightly sweetened whipped cream with almond extract and sliced fresh strawberries. Or that same whipped cream with homemade blueberry pie filling. Ok, at that point its more a dessert. :)

I’d make a double recipe and freeze the leftovers for the rest of the week. Then toast them up like Eggo waffles. AWESOME!

  • manizor

Balsamic Chicken and mashed potatoes. YUM!!! It’s always a hit and my hubby asks for it regularly. When I try to switch things up a bit, he is disappointed. So it’s a winner!

  • Annie

    Chicken curry!

    Mexican Food!
Tacos, Quesadillas, Fajitas or Tortilla soup!

  • Fish tacos! I love them so much I could eat them every single day (and usually have them at least once a week).

  • Bridget

I mill my own wheat with a flour mill, so I use fresh whole wheat flour in my cooking quite frequently. One of my favorite recipes is my own for whole wheat chocolate chip pancakes. I use the freshly milled whole wheat flour, but I also add navy beans to the mill to make bean flour. The beans combined with the wheat makes a complete protein which makes me happy. The kids can’t taste the navy beans at all!!! I make the pancakes for breakfast at least twice a week and for dinner on busy soccer nights about once a week!!

  • Debbie

My husband’s favorite is Chicken Broccoli Casserole and would LOVE it if I made it once a week. It’s delicious and has a hint of curry in it. Mmm. Mine is probably Sweet and Sour Meatballs, but since hubby isn’t as big of a fan, it doesn’t get made nearly as often as I would like. *sad* :)

  • Michaela

Cinnamon toast! It’s one of those ultimate comfort foods that I’ve loved since childhood, and I find myself making it at least two mornings a week for breakfast.

  • Cheesy Chicken, the title doesn’t do the dish justice. It of course has chicken and cheese (Velveeta, creamy goodness) but also has a bit of zip (by adding Rotel diced tomatoes and chiles). It also has a can of cream of mushroom soup and corn for a Southwestern kick. Delicious. You serve it over noodles and with a slice of garlic toast. My absolute favorite food and an easy go-to meal!

  • Homemade nachos. I grill chicken that has been marinated in salsa and put it on a bed of homemade corn tortilla chips & topped with cheese. Seriously, I could make this for dinner every day and the hubs would be happy. :)

  • Sarah

Risotto! I love the texture and there are an unlimted number of flavor combinations. Too bad my husband doesn’t feel the same way!

  • Leslie

Homemade Marinara and pasta! No one in my house seems to ever get tired of this meal.

  • Nhiro

Roasted veg of any kind. I have it almost every other day.

  • ApexAngie

Pizza…at home! Preferably with mushrooms and fresh baby spinach.

  • Marie Brandt

I like to marinate a flank steak all day, then throw it on the grill for about 5 minutes each side. We have it thinly sliced with either mashed or baked potatoes and then the next day I have it sliced on top of a fresh green salad.

  • Black Bean Tortilla Casserole. It’s so easy to make, cheesy, but also healthy.

  • Xuan

Curry chicken with jasmine rice. Minimal effort and delicious!

  • Kris

Homemade pizza! We could eat this several times a week but then I would need to work out more.

Can’t wait to try the potatoes.

  • Grace

    pasta we have regularly.

  • june g.

i make french toast with challah bread every weekend! it’s always gobbled up:)

  • Amy

We’re kinda boring at our house, and currently on Weight Wachers, so we eat a LOT of chicken and veggie stir fry.

  • my hubby’s favorite is pork tenderloin with pasta and red sauce. Mine…I don’t know, I like food so much I can’t pick a favorite.

  • Jami

We have spaghetti and meatballs every week! It used to be Wednesday night, and now it has been moved to Monday night. DD has dance class in the evening, so it is a quick and easy meal that everyone likes!

  • Linda V

I make a sweet sausage minestrone with totelleni, and artichoke that I could eat every week (well alone with warm bread). Using turkey sausage I feel it’s fairly healthy and tastes wonderful!

  • Chris

    Black Bean Quesadillas!

  • Pizza!

  • Liss

It’s a Campbells soup recipe that is a chicken stir fry w/ Cream of Shroom soup. Soy sauce, carrots, broccoli..mmmmm, comfort food!

  • Janel

Burritos! I’m just addicted to them, I will consume one (either purchased or made) about once a week.

  • We have quesadillas ALOT around here! I like to experiment with different fillings. It’s also quick and easy.

  • Does a peanut butter sandwich count?
If not, I’d have to say chicken and rice soup and cornbread.

  • The only food that we have regularly year-round is picnic potatoes. We just can’t get enough of them! We also have chicken parmesan or pizza quite a bit.

  • This might be cheating, but stir-fry! It comes together really quickly, and you can mix it up easily, with different veggies and meats. Really the only constants for me are marinating the meat in a blend of Italian dressing soy sauce. Really not traditional or authentic, but so good!

  • Chicken and dumplins- yummm

  • Amy

  • Rybread

It fluctuates at our house but right now we’re addicted to this chicken and rice casserole from Cooking Light. Its a great lightened version of a classic comfort food and we can eat it guilt free! Its delicious. You can find it on the website.

  • Megan

Warm coconut chicken tortilla soup. Throw it all in the crockpot in the morning and tantalizing deliciousness tickles your nose as your come through the door in the evening. Mm-mm! I am also a firm believer of cornbread with any Mexican meal so when I feel ambitious I make Boston Market (aka half butter cake mix) cornbread. Yum!

  • lovestoeat

each week there is mexican..tacos, enchiladas or burritos…we love them oh so much…
    great post…those fries look great

  • Diva1gina

Ratatouille…especially when the herbs and vegetables are coming fresh from my garden! But for hubby it would be Spanish Rice. And the kids would go with French Toast Strata with homemade Apple Cider Syrup. Yummm! We save that one for holidays and birthdays!

  • Sarah

Ina Garten’s roasted shrimp and orzo. I think I could eat it daily.

  • jaimeleben

I think tacos would have to be my answer. We just finished a dinner of beef tacos, your salsa, and my new margarita madeleines, and it was fantastic. We love Mexican food.

  • Courtney

In the summer it’s burgers! My husband loves to grill so we probably have some kind of burger at least once a week. I”ll have to try these fries to go with them!

  • Suzy

We love spagetti pie that it finds it’s way to our table at least once a week. It’s a dish I learned to make early on in our married life. I couldn’t compete with my husband’s Italian Nanna’s spagetti and meatballs so I made something she didn’t make. The family loved it! It’s become a signature dish at my table.

  • Erin

Homemade pizza! It is usually on my weekly menu and I love trying different toppings.

  • Michelle

I love making pizza for dinner. Homemade crust is so easy to make, there are so many toppings/sauces to choose from, and I love using my pizza stone!

  • Janet

    These fries look great!

My go-to meal is homemade pizza. I usually make a batch of dough on the weekends to have on hand for a fast weeknight dinner.

  • If I had my way, homemade mac ‘n’ cheese every week…so good!

  • Beth

It seems to go in phases, but lately, chickpea tomato pasta has been a regular. It’s super easy and soooo good. (Plus, it’s pretty healthy!)

And I’ve never heard of soaking the potatoes before cooking them. I will have to try that trick next time I make fries.

  • Elizabeth

Chicken Chorizo! Yum! Sweet, spicy, and addictive.

  • mic

    spaghetti and garlic bread

  • Jacqueline

Hmm, it’s all so seasonal for me. Pancakes, though, are timeless!

  • Jenn

Chicken Parm. something about the melted provolone and tomato sauce – gets me every time!!

  • Anna

I make a version of your Spicy Po’boys with buffalo for my husband and vegan version for me. They are soooooooooooo good. Everytime I say we’re having them for dinner my husband get more exited than me in a shoe store!

  • Usually something Buffalo, such as chicken or shrimp, with lots of bleu cheese.

  • My go-to meal is chicken and dumplings.

  • Sheryl

Pizza! Either homemade or we love Papa Murphy’s take and bake.

  • Baked chicken taquitos!!

  • I recently added my homemade pizza to our weekly menu, it is the best. These fries look amazing, I might have to add them too. Thanks.

  • Recently, my husband’s grandmother taught me how to make her chicken and dumplings. She didn’t have a recipe, so I had to take notes and then go home a figure out the measurements. I did make a few tweaks of my own, but they are so good and so comforting. It makes enough for leftovers, so we have had chicken and dumplings the last two weeks and I think I’m going to put it back on the menu again this week!

  • marjie

Baked tilapia. I love your website and my daughters are now fans too. My daughter living in chicago recently made your deep dish pizza with her boyfriend and now say they are spoiled and don’t think they will be able to go back to take out again. (they made it with lowfat turkey pepperoni!) Your gyro meals were amazing and every night since I have made a greek salad with your yummy dressing. The dressing I eat EVERYDAY..even drizzle it on sandwiches and wraps. YUM. Marjie

  • Jolene

This is actually a dish but we always have a “freezer” meal. On Sunday when I am making dinner I make one “freezer” meal. It is usually enchilada’s, lasagna, chicken cordon bleu, pizza or chicken kiev. My hubby is going back to school and working full time so dinners have been tough lately. It is nice to have these quick meals on hand.

  • JaniceJ

Spicy grilled chicken alfredo. The taste of grilled chicken and the spiciness makes the alfredo sauce easier to handle =]

  • I love cheese tortellini/raviloli enough that it’s always on the menu once a week!

  • Tiffany

One of my favorite dishes is a recipe I found on eatingwell.com. I don’t know exactly what it’s called, so I copied the recipe:

2 5-ounce boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon canola oil
    1 medium shallot, minced
1 cup thinly sliced shiitake mushroom caps
2 tablespoons dry vermouth, or dry white wine
    1/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
    2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives, or scallion greens
Season chicken with pepper and salt on both sides.
Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook, turning once or twice and adjusting the heat to prevent burning, until brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165°F, 12 to 16 minutes. Transfer to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm.
Add shallot to the pan and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add mushrooms; cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 2 minutes. Pour in vermouth (or wine); simmer until almost evaporated, scraping up any browned bits, about 1 minute. Pour in broth and cook until reduced by half, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in cream and chives (or scallions); return to a simmer. Return the chicken to the pan, turn to coat with sauce and cook until heated through, about 1 minute.

It’s so good! I make it with your garlic rice and it is absolutely amazing!

  • Hmm, this is hard. I love a lot of foods but almost never repeat something each week. I’d say Tacos and Taco Salads are high on my list of favorites.

  • jambalaya. yum!

  • Kari

    Mock garlic mashed potatoes

  • Jen

We used to love a nice, thick pizza. After travelling to Italy, however, we have fallen in love with Pizza Margherita and end up making it almost every week. Fresh Basil, Fresh Mozarella, and tomatoes with garlic, olive oil, and coarse salt on a thin crust. Mmmmm.

  • Courtney

Chicken Pasta! Bowtie pasta with chicken, garlic, fresh basil, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese!

My most favorite (and super simple) recipes to make every week is a pork tenderloin cooked in the crock pot with a can of tropical friut salad dumped over the top, 1/2 C. of OJ and a splash of water. Cook on low for 8 hours and WOW! I serve it with wild rice and brussel sprouts. It’s one of my husband’s favorites, too.

  • oooo we make chicken with spinach and roasted cherry tomatoes, feta, and rotini just about once a week. delish!

DESSERT is always on the menu at our my house! It just doesn’t feel right if I don’t end a meal with something sweet & homemade.

  • Thanks for this recipe! I’m looking forward to trying it already as I haven’t been satisfied with my so-so baked fries.

As far as a meal a week, it would be taco soup. Super easy, super yummy, filled with amazing veggies that the kids like and super flexible in ingredients!

  • Sara

Some sort of tacos appear regularly at our house!

  • Sue

My favorite isn’t really a main dish, but Buffalo Chicken Wing dip is sooo good I would eat it every single day!

I have been sorely disappointed with my homemade french fries. Can’t wait to try this recipe out!

  • Abby

Sorry forgot to add that we love to eat pizza! YUM!
